    Contributing to the Web Effort

Everyone is invited to take part in the expansion of the site and can do so in a variety of ways:

    • Submitting photos and other printed material

If you prefer to scan photos and other material yourself, you can email me the scans and I will be happy to integrate them into the upcoming alumni photo album. Be sure to check the list below for items already available. This can save you a lot of time.

If your access to a scanner is limited, or scanning the material will prove too time consuming, I would be more than happy to do the scanning for you. Just contact me for a mailing address. I'm also able to scan slides and negatives, which has proven tricky for some alumni.

Flint School Material already available: (no need to resubmit)
      • Seamanship Manual
      • Data Cards
      • Postcards
      • 4rthR Promo Literature
      • All newsletters from 1974-1981
      • Flint School Promo Album (the little yellow book)
    • Submitting Flint Stories

Some great flint tales have been retold and brought out to the open. If you too have any experiences, opinions, or stories to share, please send them in!

Look for other stories under the 'flint stories' section

    • Linking to your own web site

If you have your own website related to Flint School or Te Vega & teQuest in general, please email me the link, and I'll be happy to integrate it into our index.

    History

The Flint School's web presence is relatively recent. Since its first whispers in 1996 the site has seen immense growth and has evolved into a fascinating project. The following time line chronicles some of the mile stones.
    Internet Time Line
1996 PK Stevens begins construction of the Flint School e-Museum. To date it has grown to become the largest archive of Flint School material with dozens of eDisplayCases, stories, and images.
Jul. 31, 1997 Tono Lineberger searches for old friends on the internet and stumbles accross Will Trillich's personal web page. In an email he writes:
       > Looking for old friends, did you go to the Flint School during the '70's?
       > No need to respond if answer is no, reply to wolf66@earthlink.net
       > Te Vega rules!
Aug. 24, 1997 Will Trillich posts some Flint School pictures to his initial web site at http://www.pinncomp.com/~will/flint/ (website has since relocated). These photos later became part of the awareness quiz pages.
Aug. 30, 1997 Tono Lineberger joins forces and creates his own flint page. Tono has quite a few photos from his 76-79 tenure.
??? Allan Isaacson sets up a Flint School page under www.flintschool.com. Unfortunately Allan has disappeared without a trace and we hope he is well. The domain is still in his name, but his web pages are no longer hosted anywhere. If anyone has information on what happened to Allan, please contact the web masters.
Jul. 08, 1999 The original Alumni Directory by Will Trillich opens for buisness. First contacts included:

       Aug/11/99 - Lee Knutson
       Aug/14/99 - Spring (Pollard) Wright
       Aug/19/99 - Trey Wickwire
       Aug/26/99 - Ann (Warren) Huck
       Aug/30/99 - P.K. Stevens
Oct. 11, 1999 Trey Wickwire sets up "The Free Thinkers" - a messaging board for discussing Flint School memories, politics, philosophy, objectivism, etc. Over 2000 postings to date!
Dec. 4, 1999 First organized online chat event takes place. The next day, Trey Wickwire writes:

Hello everyone, I would like to report that the first ever Chat Session of the Free Thinkers e-mail group was a huge success. Myself, George Trega, Spring Pollard and Ann Warren got together and killed an hour and a half talking about everything from kids to Firewalking. Talking in the chat room can be a bit confusing, especially with the lag time that comes with communicating from Kazakstan, but I would say we managed quite well. It was so nice to speak in real time, knowing someone on the other end was sitting there waiting for your response. It wasn't that long ago that simultaneous communication with California, Pennsylvania, Florida and Kazakstan was not even a dream and today it is just basic technology. What will tomorrow hold for us and our children?
Jul. 13, 2000 Trey Wickwire registers www.flint-school.com - a second attempt at a Flint School based domain. He offered to make this the official homepage for Flint School alumni, hosting flint pages for anyone requesting it.
Sep. 14, 2000 Burk Prael volunteers for the position of web master for www.flint-school.com.
Primary objectives included designing an attractive front-end, linking existing flint material together, and filling in features not present on other web sites.
Sep. 25, 2000 The flint-school.com website gets a new splash page and a newsletter-like welcome message. By Burk Prael.
Oct. 6, 2000 Eight months after the first chat, a second chat event takes place 10pm EST. Attendees included Brett Carlson, Burk Prael, PK Stevens, Spring Wright, Tono Lineberger, George Tregea, Trey Wickwire, Patrick Lee, and Kirk Gunn. The chat lasted a good 4 hours and was initially geared towards discussing the next reunion, but shamelessly digressed...
Oct. 11, 2000 A new page focusing primarely on reunion information is setup.
    By Burk Prael.
Oct. 30, 2000 A stylish guest book makes itself available to the world.
    By Burk Prael.
Nov. 17, 2000 A new, database driven alumni directory opens its doors. Allows visitors to add or modify entries in real-time. To date lists over 260 alumni, detailing years aboard, ship lived on, email addresses, and more. By Burk Prael.
Dec. 29, 2000 Jim Stoll visits the flint-school.com site for the first time and leaves a hall mark entry in the guest book.

    Projects

During the development of these web pages, a wealth of new ideas and suggestions have come along that have improved or added to the site. If you too can think of anything, feel free to send in a suggestion.

    Curent list of projects:

    • Develop a unified alumni photo album housing all the Flint School's promo material and all the photos submitted by alumni. (75% complete)

    • Develop a suggested-reading database where users can enter book information like title, author, publisher, summary, genre, etc.

    • Make a CD with this website on it. It could serve a nice anniversary item and should also come in handy for the bandwidth challenged.
